About Rand Herron

Rand Herron My name is Rand Herron. I was born in Lake Worth, Florida, in the county of Palm Beach. Seven years ago, I retired from law enforcement and moved to Northern Georgia.
When I was just seventeen, I broke my neck in a diving accident. That catastrophic injury nearly killed me and left me a quadriplegic and confined to a wheelchair for life. I was in the hospital for nearly six months learning to do everything all over again, except the walking, of course. That was 1977. I am paralyzed from the chest down and in my arms and hands. My arms are half paralyzed, so to speak, and my fingers are as well. I am able to move my arms and wrists quite well however, but am limited with triceps. Without the use of my fingers, I have mastered leverage and can do many things with my hands, including driving my van.
When I was young and before my injury, I was moderately interested in art, especially photography. I also used to sketch a fair bit, which consisted of mostly sports figures and portraits. Other than a few public school art courses, that was the extent of my training. When I was twenty, a few years after my injury, I apprenticed for a short time under a famous portrait artist. Though it only lasted about 6 months, I did learn some good lessons about oil painting. I did only 1 1/2 portraits, never having finished the second. For a few years hence, I did dabble in sketching on and off. Then didn't touch art until my wife gave me the gift of an ipad in 2011. After seeing an amazing artist (on youtube) do an oil rendering on his ipad I was stunned to learn that you could draw and paint digitally. That the "apps" for art really and completely simulate real art, in almost every form. Weather drawing, sketching, air brushing or oil, the genre of art is translated beautifully without actually using paint. The screen is my canvas and my finger is the brush. I can make the brush any shape I like and no chemicals are involved. My paints unlimited and the drying time immediate. I have found though, that time does not know the difference. It takes just as long to paint digitally then with real paint. For me anyway.
Attempting to make this long story a bit shorter, I decided To paint flowers. I love the elemental feminine beauty of a flower. As you can see, I have painted other subjects as well and I am painting differing subjects. I only paint when I'm in the mood.
Being new to digital art, some of the pieces are limited in size do to resolution setting issues. My art is in fact a digital (.jpeg) file, so therefore must be printed in the form of a photograph. The prints are basically photographs and though each piece is painted with love for a special person, they can be reproduced as often as I like. No one person owns a true original, except myself. You are purchasing in affect, a copy. If you like it well enough, I'm hoping that will suffice.
All my work is done with love for those I love. I hope you enjoy it. The horse was a first doing an animal. It was done for my wife Cathy.
Peace! -Rand
